CLUB NEWS No 7 – 16th AUGUST 17

A fantastic race last Sunday on loads of fresh snow, so much so that people had difficulty getting up the mountain! Moral of the story is, ALWAYS OBEY THE SIGNS!

‘Thanks to Hannah & Alanna and the Snow Farm team. We had a fun race even if getting there was a challenge of fitting chains, but the it was so worth it as the weather was perfect, company good and a real fun race. Lots of fresh snow on top of a hard base made race conditions around the Whoopty Doo trail achievable by all – yes so much fun watching the youngsters & oldies hitting the hills. The downhills were forgiving but a good wax job would have helped some of our skis glide better.
Hopefully we will have good weather next weekend for the Waiorau Classic – Saturday.

We are aiming to have fun events as well – remember the chocolate fish eating races – well if you do or don’t, lets have one in the afternoon. So if you are not on the podium for the regular races, you could be if you can eat chocolate fish quickly – so start training – you can buy good ones at Wanaka 4 Square.’ Race results attached. Well done everyone!

Is this Saturday, not Sunday as other races – Waiorau Classic! Check start time when you arrive as I haven’t had confirmation on that, but I’m assuming it’s morning. Registrations beforehand. Usual cost – free if you’re a member, $5 otherwise. Make it a great event. 21ks for the long race, plus shorter distances. Hone up on your choc fish eating skills and you might just win the prize for that!

Sorry, no more lockers available for this season.

Time to dust them off and return to the office. Adults who need to return them are – Ben Falconer, Ian McNabb, Joanna Jones, John Hogg, Ann Smaill, Tony McMurray, Derryk Grzelewski, Liz Maluschnig.
Youth – Louis Jones, Campbell Wright, Hannah McNabb, Olivia Jones, Ben McMurray, Daniel Wright, Brianna Joy, Winnifred Brown. I will leave a carton in the office for them. Thanks.

We have booked a booth again this year for the Festival, being held at the new Recreation Centre in Wanaka. This will be on Saturday 23rd September, 9am – 1pm. It’s a worthwhile and fun thing to do, talking to people and promoting Cross Country Skiing. Is there anyone who would like to assist? We have 1 possible helper, but need 2 or 3. Let me know if you would like to do this.

This year on Saturday 16th Sept. That’s also the Schools’ Championships, but we’re hoping to squeeze it in at lunchtime. It will be largely to appoint the Committee, (or re-appoint!) and elect Officers for the coming year. All are invited to attend, and if you would like to be more involved, please put your name forward for the Committee, or one of the Officer positions, as one or two are standing down.

I recently had an email from her and she is happily involved in guiding summer and winter and invites anyone from the Snow Farm who may be in Canada, to come and join her. Sounds like a great invite. Read her news below – She is hoping to come to NZ next Spring!

‘I am no longer doing any biathlon at all, just a cross country ski every now and then. I actually sold my rifle almost two years ago now! It was a very sad day.
In the summer I am hiking guiding over here at a lodge called Purcell Mountain lodge. You would all love it so much! If anyone in the club is coming over, we could arrange such an amazing trip up there! It would be so much fun 🙂
In the winter, I have been a part of the guiding team at Monashee Powder Snowcats, a catskiing company. This year I am doing my ski guide certification’.

Conditions at the Snow Farm were as good as they get yesterday, so make sure you get up there soon. Bring a friend and introduce them to another world – above worry level.
