WINTER GAMES RACING
Last Thurs, Fri and Sat we were treated to racing at its best with top XC skiers from several countries competing for all-important FIS rankings. Even in trying conditions on Saturday it was great viewing from the UFO as most of the course could be seen. Ernie and team set a challenging circuit, and freshly groomed by Dean, it looked a picture. The Snow Farm can be proud of what it offers to international skiers. It’s up there with the best trails in the world. The Winter Games is supported by many volunteers, who on Saturday stood out in awful weather for hours. All credit to them! It was especially exciting to watch young Campbell Wright, racing with some of the world’s best on Saturday. He acquitted himself very well in the Classic race, running up most of the hills and passing others on the way. Very impressive for a lad who is only 15 and great experience for him. No doubt we’ll hear a bit more of Campbell!
Come up and watch the last event for the Season and cheer on Mt Aspiring College. Prizegiving for the day will happen shortly after the last race, and straight after that, Youth Awards from the Club will be presented, so please stay on for that. MAC have enjoyed a lot of success in the past. Will they pull it off again this year??
OUR AGM ALSO ON SATURDAY
We hope this will get underway about 3pm. We will just deal with AGM business such as election of Officers, and reports from the President and Treasurer. Please come and have an input to the running of your Club.
FESTIVAL OF SPORT & RECREATION
The Club is once again planning to be part of this Festival, held at the new Recreation Centre in Wanaka, 9am – 1pm, Saturday 23rd Sept. Phillipa and I enjoyed talking to interested people and explaining our sport to them last year. I will be there again but would love others to come and assist, especially some of our younger Club members. Set-up time is from 8am Sat morning, and if you could spare an hour or so any time from then, please let me know.
PROFESSIONAL PHOTOS FROM MUSTER DAY
If you haven’t looked at them, go to www.studio5.co.nz and see if you were caught on camera! A nice memoir. Sadly there aren’t any photos of the 7km race.
PRESENTATION OF ADULT TROPHIES/CUPS
The time and place for this hasn’t been set as yet, but I will advise shortly.
If you think it’s the end of the Season, think again! There’s still plenty of snow up there!!
